Ex-pupils flourishing in numerous fields
Our former pupil and tennis star Ellie Scarff was awarded the Junior Sportswoman of the Year award for the second year in succession at a glitzy ceremony at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru on Friday, November 27.
Another standout year for Ellie saw her crowned national champion in the U18 and U16 category in convincing fashion, before being offered a place at the Patrick Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in the South of France, which she started in September.
In addition to her success on the court, Ellie also gained two A*s and seven A grades in her GCSEs despite her tennis commitments.
Cricket star Will Sissons was up for Junior Sportsman of the Year, but unfortunately missed out on the award, while we also sponsored the Special Achievement award, which went to Matthew Kennedy.
Laura Nunez-Mulder, who left us in 2013, lined up for Cambridge University’s Ladies’ Rugby side as they took on Oxford in the first ever women’s varsity match at Twickenham on Thursday, December 10.
This is the first time that women took part in the clash, which has been played by men from both universities for over a century.
The Cambridge side rose to the occasion at what is generally considered to be the home of rugby, and defeated Oxford 52-0 in fine style.
The game was screened live on the BBC via the red button, and highlights of the game were shown on BBC 2 at half-time during the men's match.
