Pupils debate with MEP at Westminster
Economics and Business Studies pupils had an impromptu debate with an MEP during a project visit.
The group have been working throughout the term on a Euroscola project, which works in a similar way to the Model United Nations but uses the European Parliament as its guide.
This culminated in a visit to Westminster on Thursday, November 19, where they presented their research on the Turkish accession to the EU to a panel that included Dr Kay Swinburne, Conservative Member of the European Parliament for Wales.
The MEP gave an informative talk where she explained about her role, before taking part in a question and answer session with pupils.
A team of four pupils, who are studying both A-level and International Baccalaureate took part in the Bank of England Target 2.0 Challenge.
During the event Lloyd Parry Williams, Anjalina Mitra, Henry Williams and William Marston had to give their views on what the Monetary Policy Committee should do in order to meet the UK Government’s two per cent target for inflation.
The foursome undertook an incredible amount of research for the challenge, including investigation into the many causes of possible inflation, disinflation and deflation, while also examining conflicting data to gauge the overall impact upon the UK economy.
Following the presentation the group received a commendation by judges from the Bank of England, which was given for their insights supply side shocks and the role the external value of sterling is likely to have on future price levels.
