Standout term for sporting stars
Our vast array of gifted sailors have been praised for their outstanding season on the water.
Brothers Eddie and Kevin Farrell have long been two of the most talented sailors in the region, and they enhanced their reputation even further during the campaign which earned them a call-up to the Welsh RS Feva National Squad.
In addition the pair have also been chosen for the Northern UK RS Tera squad for their native Ireland for the second consecutive year.
Father Ed Farrell, said: “This is a great achievement for both of them as they have only just started sailing in the RS Feva, but they have already proven to have significant potential in the double handed boat, and they are both delighted to receive the call-up.”
Joining them in the RS Feva national squad are Ewan Luke and Zac Blomeley, who impressed selectors by winning the RS Feva class at the recent Welsh Zones event in Bala.
This is Ewan’s third year with the squad, while it will be Zac’s second year with the team.
Rounding off the national picks for us is Daisy Lee-Browne, who will join up with the RYA Cymru-Wales Youth 29er squad after a number of eye-catching performances in recent events including first girls in the 29ers with her partner Chloe Butterworth at the Welsh Zones in Bala.
Another success story is Felix Corson, who has been selected for the RYA Cymru North Wales Regional Feva Squad, and will now join up with the group for their winter training sessions.
Hockey star Hannah Cashell has been in fantastic form for Colwyn Bay Ladies this term.
The head girl, who has received international honours in the past, continued her impressive progression with a series of fine displays, including a hat-trick Colwyn Bay Seconds’ 3-1 win over Ffestiniog.
Our impressive skiing programme is going from strength-to-strength after another successful season.
With our girls' side reaching the British Schools Indoor Championships, Mr Robson, who has a number of British University Ski Race Championships to his name, has praised our forward-thinking by offering Skiing to its pupils.
He said: “We are fortunate to be within an hour’s drive of three artificial ski slopes and the snow of the Manchester Chill Factore is just a little further away.
“Skiing has been a significant part of the schools extra-curricular programme for a number of years.
“Around 70 Pre-Prep and Prep pupils, from as young as four, take part in weekly ski sessions through the autumn and winter, along with race training and racing in both the Senior and Prep."
Becky Lawton was chosen for the squad after impressing for Conwy County U16s in their clash against Gwynedd and Ynys Mon.
The Goal Attack will now move on to the Eryri squad, who will compete at the Welsh netball inter-counties tournament in March.
This feat was made even greater by the fact that the squad now selects from across North West Wales, a move that has made getting into the squad more difficult as they select from a wider group of players.
Becky said: “It was a nerve-wracking experience but the main thing was to get into the squad, something which I managed to do.
“I am looking forward to going to Cardiff for the Welsh inter-counties tournament, and hope I can help the team do well.”
Miss Head, said: “Since joining us in Year 7 Becky has demonstrated a natural shooting ability.
“This is the second time Becky has had the honour of representing Eryri, this first time was as an U14. We are all very proud of her achievement.”
