As part of their curriculum on Bears, the Reception class visited the Welsh Mountain Zoo on Wednesday, September 30, and in addition to viewing animals the group also had the privilege of feeding the two Bears at the zoo.
Year 6 pupils got to learn more about the religion of Islam on a recent visit.
Our pupils travelled to the Conwy Islamic Centre, situated in Llandudno Junction as part of their Religious Studies curriculum.
They were greeted at the mosque by the Imam Mohamed, who began by telling the children about the five pillars of Islam; Belief, Prayer, Fasting, Charity and Pilgrimage.
The second part of the lesson involved going to the basement where the washing rooms were, so that the Imam could demonstrate ‘wudu’, a ritual process of making oneself clean before prayers.
Before the conclusion of the visit the pupils were given a presentation on typical Muslim prayer, and a question and answer session was also held with the Imam.
Rev’d Sissons, said: “For six years this has formed part of the autumn Year 6 RS curriculum and a good understanding of Islam has always been regarded as an integral part of the children’s religious education.
“Seeing the wudu demonstration was such a novel experience for the children and not surprisingly some found the idea of washing out your nose and ears before worship an amusing one."
Plenty of fun was had by pupils on their visit to the Arte Outdoor Centre in Llanrug.
The Year 6 group were treated to a variety of action packed activities on the Isle of Anglesey during their week-long stay which took place from Monday, September 21 to Friday 25.
One of the most popular excursions was to the beach, where the pupils were given a body boarding master class, and even had the opportunity to take to the waves themselves.
They also got the chance to climb around some of the picturesque mountains of Snowdonia, they rafted through lakes and even explored underground slate mines.
Another trip our pupils enjoyed this term was to learn more about Ancient Egyptian life.
As part of their History topic on the life and times of the Pharaohs, Year 3 pupils took a trip to the Egyptian Exhibition at the World Museum in Liverpool on Thursday, October 1.
During the visit they had the opportunity to take part in a workshop that involved four different activities.
The first was identifying Egyptian Gods, followed by identifying artefacts and what they were made of.
They then were tasked with working out the purpose of conopic jars in pyramids, and finished off the workshop by identifying writing on objects and learning about hieroglyphics.
In the afternoon, our pupils visited the planetarium section of the museum where the found out more about the constellations in the Autumn sky, before ending their day looking around the Space Gallery.
