Astrid Ihle - UN Interpreter Theatre in London Alumni Meetings Middle Eastern Cruise
Beau Soleil had the great pleasure to welcome and interview Astrid Ihle (a professional conference interpreter for the European Union) about her experience of growing up in the ex-GDR and the impact the reunification had on her life. This was particularly insightful for the students who could apply this to their studies at the moment. A. McNicol
Students had a packed programme. They saw five shows in four days; attended an acting workshop at the National Theatre with the lead actor from 'Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime'; had two backstage tours - one at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the other at the Globe Theatre. They saw the Theatre and Performance exhibition at the V&A Museum; took in China Town at Chinese New Year; did a quick shop in Harrods; wrote reflections on what they had experienced; and ate and slept well indeed! Over Half Term, ten students and two members of staff arrived in Dubai to meet our cruise ship, the Costa Fortuna.
After an overnight sail to Oman, the group had chance to drive 4x4s to Wadi Al Arbeieen, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The following day was spent enjoying the beach, dipping toes in the Arabian Sea, before sailing to Khasab.
There they boarded a traditional dhow for a cruise through the Omani limestone fjords and were lucky enough to see wild dolphins. (Video by Elizabeth Y.)
The relaxtion stopped here as the next part of the trip was to Abu Dhabi, home to the fastest roller coaster in the world at Ferrari World!
The next day was a tour of Dubai by day and by night, ending with dinner on the desert. Arabic foods were sampled with male and female dancers and the entertainment continued with hands being decorated with henna and holding falcons! The final item on the agenda was a trip to the red desert dunes for dune driving, camel riding and sand surfing. This amazing trip ended with some intensive shopping therapy at the Dubai Mall or the Gold Souk. H. Cevey
During the months of January and February, our Alumni Director travelled to Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Miami and Mexico, gathering our alumni from different years and generations for dinner. These reunions allow us to stay in touch with our former students and find out about their current activities. It’s always a very intimate and fun event, everyone sharing their unforgettable school memories. C. Ratishvili
