RNCM visit for Harp Masterclass
Talented musicians from the region descended on our Memorial Hall for a special harp masterclass.
Eira Lynn Jones, head of harp studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, shared her expertise with 35 budding harpists on Sunday, February 7.
During the event, Ms Jones, together with school harp tutor Helen Wyn Pari, went through a number of strategies including developing technical abilities and expressive skills.
Ms Wyn Pari, said: "It was a spectacular scene to see 35 young harpists having a great time exploring the instrument with the internationally acclaimed Eira Lynn Jones.
“Assistance was supplied by one of her final year Undergraduate student Sophie Rocks, and it proved to be a very informative occasion."
The Alawtastig local harp ensemble performed an impressive lunchtime concert, before masterclass pupils performed their very own recital in-front of friends, family and members of the public to finish off the day.
Mr Wright, added: “It was a fantastic day and I would like to thank both Eira and Helen for their efforts in organising such a successful event.
“It was great to see so many pupils and non-pupils taking advantage of having such an experienced and well-respected harpist at the school, and hopefully the skills they have learnt here will stand them in good stead in the future.”
