Trophy retained in dramatic fashion
Our superstar rugby players retained the Cooper Cup after a thrilling second leg display against Colwyn Bay.
The U8 side triumphed 12-5 thanks to a majestic display from the tricky Biv Gilmartin, who was one of the standout performers on show.
This was further boosted by the U9 side, who came away with a hard fought 7-5 victory with fine displays from James Gilmartin, Henry Hibbert and Telor Jones.
Our U10 side ensured that the cup was retained after a 21-7 victory, with John Dick mustering a performance of genuine quality to get his side over the line.
Needing a draw or victory to win the cup outright, our U11s began well and Callan Earle gave them the lead with two stunning tries to put the home side 14-0 up.
A fine team move resulted in Jonathan Osbourne crossing the line to ensure that we went into the interval with a 19-0 advantage.
Bay fought back in the second half to make the score 19-19 at the final whistle.
Mr McLeod, said: “The lads made it hard for themselves in the first leg, but to come out and perform under pressure as this did was magnificent.
“It was a real group effort and they showed tremendous character to not only retain, but win the Cooper Cup once again, so I am delighted.”
