Challenge success for pupils
Three of our number crunching stars achieved success in a prestigious maths challenge.
More than 1,600 pupils nationwide competed in the Mathematical Education on Merseyside Challenge, which is run by John Moores University in Liverpool over the February half term.
Mr Richmond, explains more:
"Year 8 pupil Richard Wolfendale was named as third prize winner in the Challenge ’16 category, and also receiving a Best in School certificate.
"In addition he has been invited to attend an evening of Mathematical Recreation (including the FunMaths Roadshow, a number trail and computer quiz) at the University of Liverpool on Wednesday, May 11, where he will receive his prize, a voucher to spend in “Joyce’s Shop”, which has a large selection of mathematical books and puzzles.
"Year 11 pupil Sara Owen was a certificate winner in the Open Challenge ’16 category, and has been invited to attend a similar event at the University on May 4.
"This follows on from her success in the Senior Challenge two years ago, where she was awarded a best in school certificate.
"The final pupil to receive recognition was Ioan Peake-Jones, who received a best in school certificate in the Senior Challenge category.
"Given that entries came from approximately 120 schools, with around 1,600 individual entries for Challenge ’16 and a further 900 for Senior Challenge ’16, I think the three pupils have done tremendously well and are to be congratulated for their efforts.”
