Pupils excel at national final
A group of our young scientists achieved success in a prestigious national chemistry competition final.
The team of Mili Jayadeep, Imogen Camp, Eddie Farrell and Ioan Peake-Jones competed at the Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Top of the Bench’ national final, which was held at Loughborough University on Saturday, April 16.
After a short test of factual chemical knowledge and a practical chemical problem-solving team exercise, and they managed to finish in joint 12th position for their efforts.
Mr Cashell, said: “This was a fantastic result when you consider the standard of schools the team were competing against, and all four did themselves and the school proud with their efforts.
“They did remarkably well not only to reach the national final, but to also finish prominently in a national competition demonstrated great composure and talent, something they should be very proud of.”
To reach the national final, the foursome scored 47 out of a possible 60 to win the competition’s regional heat in fine style, which was held at Bangor University’s chemistry department.
