Pupils raise funds for Mr Tickner memorial
Wesley Day, which was held at last month, raised hundreds of pounds and pupils decided to use the money for a bench in memory of Mr Tickner, who passed away on March 7 aged 62.
Subject to approval, the bench will be placed overlooking New Field, where Mr Tickner would often sit and enjoy rugby and cricket matches over the years.
Mr McDuff, said: “This is a fantastic gesture from our Wesley House pupils, and it just shows how much Rob was loved here.
“He was the cornerstone of the school for over three decades and was always on hand to offer advice to pupils. It is only fitting that there will be a lasting memorial in one of his favourite areas.
“Rob had a great passion for everything Wesley house related, and he continues to be sorely missed.”
Rev’d Sissons, added: “Rob cared about his own teaching – it was always of the highest standard – and he wanted the pupils to care about their work too.
“Shoddy or sloppy work was the thing that most disappointed him, because he wanted people to do and give their best at all times.
“He was a great believer in Wesley house and the principles it stood for, and was very passionate about his rugby too, so a bench at New Field is a very fitting and poignant tribute.”
