Othman Harakat, 17, was one of the youngest runners in the 31st MARATHON DES SABLES and the youngest Moroccan participant in the history of the event. MDS is considered to be one of the toughest running events in the world.
In his own words: "I was indeed looking for a sporting event out of the ordinary, and I saw this one... because it takes place in my country, the choice was quickly made!"
To prepare for this event, Othman, had to train all winter and followed specific exercises and benefited from the guidance and advice provided by Miss Bruce, Mr Peltier, the Sports Department and previous runners of the MDS. He achieved the remarkable place of 207th out of 1109.
We have moved into the Summer Sports season and have started with great success. Gloria H won the SGIS Senior Girls tennis championships, Victoria W competed in the ADISR Horse Riding Competition in Geneva and we won 4 medals in the ADISR cross Country Competition. Elizaveta K won the moyen girls category, Natalia U and Andrea U came 3rd and 2nd respectively in seniors and Sergio L finished in 2nd in the senior boys category.
There are many more events to come, with swimming and tennis tournaments and the final instalment of our Challenge series which will take place in the last week of term where the overall winner will be crowned.

Grade 6 & 7s enjoyed a trip to Vevey to see Chaplin's World as a part of their drama curriculum.
The museum has just opened, and is extremely interactive: students had fun dressing up in the costumes of characters from Chaplin's films, and playing within the film sets. Hopefully, the trip will have inspired them towards creating their own silent movies, which you will be able to see at the end of June!

World Book Night celebrated Shakespeare’s birthday and the 400th anniversary of his death, and the 130th anniversary of Victor Hugo’s death.
Students cut a cake to celebrate the two literary icons' birthdays. We are also thrilled to introduce the first of a series of College Beau Soleil Podcasts, which was recorded during the Printemps des Poètes and on World Book Night by our Students to share their love for poetry and reading. 31 students in Grade 9 are reaching the culmination of 8 months of work. On Friday 20th May, they will hold Beau Soleil's first ever Open Air Cinema screening. This cinematic experience will include a social with food, drink and music followed by a screening of one of the latest films on a professional outdoor cinema screen. There will be two sessions. The first will be aimed at Juniors and will start earlier in the evening with an age appropriate film. The second will be a more mature film, aimed at Middle School and Seniors.
The team have been working hard to make sure every last detail has been properly organised, from budgeting and finance, to fundraising, marketing, and venue organisation. The event will be the result of the students' hard work with minimal guidance or help from staff. So far they have been very successful, including raising over CHF1000 towards the event and presenting a convincing case to Mrs Del Federico and the school's finance office in order to secure the financial backing they need to run the event.
Now they are in the final run-up to the day itself and tickets will go on sale to students from Beau Soleil and neighbouring Swiss schools this week. We wish them every success in this ambitious entrepreneurial project.
