Pupils win annual Leavers' game
Pupils claimed bragging rights over staff in the annual Leavers’ football match.
The clash, which took place at the home of Huws Gray Alliance outfit Prestatyn Town, took place on Friday May 20 with the Rydal Penrhos Leavers’ managing to come from 3-1 down to claim a thrilling 5-4 victory.
A fiery opening to proceedings saw a number of robust challenges from both sides, with Henry Williams fortunate not to be carded for a reckless tackle on Dean Jones in the opening stages.
The first goal arrived the staff grasped the advantage against the run of play thanks to a superb finish from Rev'd Sissons following good work from Mr Nicholson.
An end-to-end contest brought chances at both ends, but the pupils got back into the game when a quick break resulted in Danny Evans steering home.
Things then went the way of staff thanks to some improved passing, and they got their noses in-front again when Sissons prodded home from close range.
The buoyant staff were now fully in the ascendancy and doubled their advantage soon after when an audacious 40-yard effort from Mr Baker found its way past keeper Max Helle.
A spell of reckless defending proved to be the crucial point in the contest, with the leavers somehow scoring three in the space of just five minutes courtesy of strikes from Wales U18 rugby international Efan Jones, Henry Williams and Evans.
They would add another to increase their lead further when Williams notched his second of the afternoon to turn the game on its head.
The prolific Sissons ensured a nervy end to proceedings with another neat finish to seal his hat-trick, and the staff were unfortunate to have a penalty appeal waved away by referee Kate McCarthy as the leavers held on for victory.
