Five day events hailed a success
The five-day showcase was organised by the school’s Modern Foreign Languages department and Wesley House, and took place from Monday, September 26 to Friday 30.
There were two aims throughout the week; to celebrate the many European Languages and to raise funds for a bench in memory of teacher and school archivist Rob Tickner, who passed away earlier this year.
Among the fundraising activities were a cake sale and waffle sale, which proved extremely popular with pupils and staff alike.
Dr Rhian Atkin, Senior Lecturer in Portuguese at Cardiff University, kicked off the week with a special lecture, while German and French film theme nights were held at boarding houses.
Traditional German game Topfschlagen took centre stage in the Ferguson Centre on Wednesday, while French pastime Lancez les Chaussons was also enjoyed by pupils, in addition to a number of European board games.
Mr McDuff, said: “This proved to be a hugely successful event and one that our pupils enjoyed immensely.
“Having pupils from other countries spread across all years at the school enables them to learn about different parts of the world and broaden their horizons, and all benefit hugely from the mix of nationalities here."
