Early Years hit the beach
Our Early Years group took part in the first ever Coastal School session on Friday, January 30, after Mrs Taylor achieved her Level Three Coastal Leader award.
The sessions have been designed to incorporate topical work from the classroom through various problem-solving methods along the picturesque Colwyn Bay coastline, which will test pupils’ creativity, investigative techniques, numeracy and literacy.
During the event the pupils spent their time creating sand snowmen using things found on the beach, and also took part in a variety of beach related games.
Mrs Taylor, said: “They used items from the strand line including shells and rocks for the face which they used numeracy skills for and also found bits of seaweed which with their imaginations they used for the hair and scarfs.”
There are plenty of other things planned for upcoming Coastal School sessions, which include moulding sand to create beach related animals, searching for and investigating different sea life, confidence and relationship building exercises, in addition to general beach ecology and weather related tasks.
Mr McDuff, added: “We are based in a beautiful part of the world, and we take full advantage of this by ensuring that a significant amount of learning takes place outside of the classroom, which we feel is essential in any child’s learning.”
