Bench honours Mr Tickner
A memorial for a much-loved teacher and historian has been unveiled.
Rob Tickner, who passed away last year aged 62, was a huge figure at the school and a special bench has been made in his honour thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff and pupils.
Mr Tickner had been part of the Rydal Penrhos community for 32 years, and a huge number of pupils and staff gathered in the Memorial Quad for the unveiling on Wesley Day.
Also in attendance were his wife Birgitta and three of their children: Emily, Paul and Dominica.
Rev’d Nick Sissons conducted the brief service during morning break, while poems were read out by pupils and memories shared by staff.
Funds for the bench were raised from last year’s Wesley House Day and Modern Foreign Languages Week.
Mr Tickner was a key contributor to both the house and department and was extremely passionate about both.
The memorial will now be placed on New Field, where you would see the teacher often during rugby or cricket matches.
Rev’d Sissons, said: “Rob was such a cherished member of the school and it was very fitting that we were able to unveil this bench on a day he held dear as a proud member of Wesley House."
