Year 5 get taste of Senior School
Year 5 pupils made the short trip to Rydal Penrhos’ senior site, where they took part in a pair of different activities throughout the afternoon.
The first group, who were led by Deputy Head Tim Cashell and Lower Sixth pupils, tried their hand at a special Crocodile Escape challenge at the Memorial Quad, which saw them trapped on an imaginary island surrounded by croc-infested waters.
Working together as a team, the pupils had to navigate their way across the section of grass using ‘lily pads’, which they had to strategically move in order for them not to touch the ‘water’ and reach safety.
The second session was held in the Sports Hall, where department director Allen Boyd gave pupils a crash-course in the techniques and trials of becoming a successful high jumper.
This included a demonstration from Year 11 pupil Sean Hughes, who is Rydal Penrhos’ record holder in the event.
Mrs Hind, said: “Everyone got a lot out of it and events such as this are a fantastic way for our pupils to get a first-hand look at the next chapter in their lives.
“Their final year with us will go by in the blink of an eye, so we have a responsibility to ensure that they are as well prepared as they can possibly be, as a move to secondary education can be very daunting for some.”
