The winners of our inter-house art competition the Alpine Café in Betws-y-Coed with teacher Mrs Morris, where their work was being featured in a special exhibition.
The competition was based on pictures of orang-utans following the visit to the Prep School of Jacha Potgieter, a local artist and environmentalist, who works to raise awareness of the plight of the animals in Borneo.
He also spends time highlighting the work of the charity at the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre, which is situated in Malaysia.
Mr McDuff, said: “All of the work produced was of very high quality and it was great for those that achieved success in the competition to see their pieces on display for members of the public to enjoy.”
Inspired by his visit, the pupils created excellent portraits of orang-utans, focusing on their expressions and facial features.
After seeing their artwork on display, the group had the opportunity to see Jacha’s rhino sculpture on the station platform, which he created to highlight the declining world population of the species.
Following this, they viewed paintings and recycled sculptures of orang-utans in the conservationist’s art gallery - Platform Galeri.
Mrs Woodthorpe, added: “It was a wonderful experience for the children to see their artwork on public display and the amazing artwork by Jacha.”
