Host of successes for pupils
Caitriona Searl gained a Distinction in her recent Grade Four Music Theory examination, which was administered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
This represents a significant feat for the 11-year-old, who is progressing through the grading process at a rapid rate and is the latest in a host of successes for the pupil.
The soon-to-be Academic and Music scholar at Rydal Penrhos was appointed as a Senior Chorister at St Asaph Cathedral despite her tender age, while she also scooped the U15 Harp Solo category at the recent Chester Festival.
She also finished second with Arthur Hind in the U17 Duet event, and has achieved a host of other music grading triumphs in recent months.
Mr Williams, said: “Caitriona continues to demonstrate why she is going to be a fantastic addition to our department and the Rydal Penrhos community when she arrives at the Senior School in September, and her latest feat is a truly outstanding one given that she is still only an 11-year-old."
Our Senior and Prep Schools sent a large contingent to the Chester Music Festival, which was held on Saturday, May 6.
There were a large number of successes throughout the day, which included a first place for Caitriona Searl in the U15 Harp Solo category.
The Year 6 pupil, who has accepted an Academic and Music scholarship next year, also claimed second prize in the U17 vocal duet alongside Arthur Hind despite competing against far older and more experienced opposition.
Classmate Martha Hind came away with the U12 Recorder Solo crown, while Anna Heyes produced a fine effort to scoop the Novice Woodwind title.
The school’s Treble Makers Choir finished just two points shy of first place as they finished runner-up in the Year 6 and Under School Choir event, and Llion Morris also earned himself a second placed finish in the Grade One/Two String category.
Other notable achievements came from Zack Coverley, who finished third in the U8 Piano Solo, with Fflur Pierce and Rana Abou-Samra both receiving “Commended” grades in the U9 Piano and Fol Singing respectively.
Rounding off a fine day of honours was Eleanor Tunstall, who earned a merit in the competitive U11 Piano Solo event.
Mr Williams, said: “Congratulations to all our wonderfully talented pupils on their success, and to teacher Mr Davies for preparing them so well.”
We held our annual Reception to Year 4 showcase on Thursday, May 25 in-front of a packed-out school hall.
There were a large number of performances to enjoy throughout the event, which featured both individual and group songs to entertain the audience.
Benjamin Richmond, Maggie McDuff and Gracie Tavernor have polished solo efforts on the Harp, while the likes of Tilly Trueman, Rana Abou-Samra, Violet Roberts and Andy Wang sang their way to a generous round of applause.
There was an eye catching Piano performance from Zack Coverley, with Fflur Pierce and Biv Gilmartin also standing out thanks to their impressive Guitar playing.
The concert concluded with each year group performing together to round off another virtuoso musical display from each participant.
Mr Williams, said: “The standard of musical talent we have here ay Rydal Penrhos never ceases to amaze me, and this year’s Reception to Year 4 concert was no exception.
“Many thanks go to each pupil that took part, everyone who attended the event and to Music teacher Mr Davies for his tireless efforts throughout the year and in the lead-up to this exceptional concert, which was once again a roaring success and thoroughly enjoyable from start-to-finish.”
