Achievements honoured at annual event
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Preparatory School pupils were honoured at a special event to bring the curtain down on the academic year.
The young pupils descended on the Memorial Hall on Friday, July 7, where they were joined by staff and family for the school’s annual Speech Day.
Achievements across all age groups were recognised in what has been another memorable year at the Prep School, with newly appointed Chair of Governors’ Julian Barnes and Senior School Headmaster Simon Smith also in attendance as special guests.
All pupils from Years 3-6 were given a certificate for their incredible efforts of the course of the year, with individual awards given out to those who have stood out in a specific field.
A special mention was given to the Year 6 group, who were all remembered fondly by head Roger McDuff, in what was his final Speech Day at the helm.
Head Boy Will Tavernor and the Head Girl pair of Ariana Milligan and Caitriona Searl also gave emotional speeches during the ceremony, and there were musical performances to enjoy from pupils across a variety of age groups.
Mr McDuff, who presented wife Emma with a bouquet of flowers as a thank you for all her support during his time as Headmaster, ended the event with a rendition of the Frank Sinatra hit Fly Me To The Moon, which brought with it both laughter and a rapturous round of applause.
He affirmed: “It was a very special day, upon which, I said to parents, grandparents and guests alike, that ours is not only a very special school but I believe it to be the very best school, certainly on the North Wales coastline and also further afield; in the North West and in Wales.”
A large number of young pupils were acknowledged for their hard work throughout the year at our annual Pre-Preparatory Speech Day.
Parents, staff and pupils descended on the School Hall on Monday, July 3, where they enjoyed a fabulous event thanks to master of ceremonies, teacher Gaynor Davies.
All pupils received certificates for their efforts throughout the year, which ranged from Early Years to Year 2.
There was also a pair of ballet performances from all four age groups, and the showcase concluded with two songs from the collective group ‘If I had a summer’ and ‘Summer Holiday’.
In addition pupils also received the gymnastics and swimming certificates, while special awards were dished out to the pupils who had shown promise throughout the year.
There were a host of individual prizes for attainment, effort and the ever popular ‘good-egg’ awards for their superb accomplishments both academically and during their extra-curricular activities.
Mr McDuff, said: “The Pre-Prep Speech Day is always one of the most popular dates on the calendar, I would like to thank all parents for coming along and indeed for their efforts during the academic year.
“It has been another memorable year here at Rydal Penrhos, with a host of our pupils going on to achieve great things – something we are very proud of.
“We look forward to welcoming you all back next year for should be another eventful ten months.”
