Clean sweep at Urdd comp
Three Rydal Penrhos pupils brought home a 1-2-3 from the Urdd Art competition, which was open to Year 6 and below.
Based around the theme of ‘The Future’, the entrants were tasked with coming up with a weird and wonderful painting or drawing in the hope of achieving the prize.
After judges had assessed all of the submissions, Year 6 pupil Ella James was crowned the winner for her portrayal of a piece of machinery from a popular TV programme.
There was further success in the form of classmate Lily Davies, who drew an Alien-inspired piece that gained her second spot, while Year 5 pupil Will Rutherford rounded off the top three in what was another notable achievement against older competition.
The trio received a certificate from the Urdd in recognition of their accomplishment, along with a generous round of applause at our weekly Celebration Assembly on Friday, June 30.
Mrs Hind, said: “This was a marvellous performance and to claim all three top spots is exceptionally pleasing.
“All of our pupils that entered the competition worked incredibly hard on their respective designs, and it was great to see all their perseverance rewarded with a hat-trick of successes, which add to the already long list of Art accomplished achieved by our magnificent pupils here at Rydal Penrhos.”
As part of the Woodland Trust’s Tree Charter Principle Worksheet, pupils across all age groups came up with nature-based drawings that were then sent off to be judged.
There were a plethora of successful entries from the school, which was now move on to the district heat where they will look for further accolades.
Some of the youngest to achieved success were Andy Wang Emmie Boyd and Ella Lloyd-Bloom, while Maggie McDuff, Ellie Knight and Gabriele Subkoviate also emerged as the best in the respective year groups.
The Year 6 duo of Ava Vonbank and Lily Davies have also progressed to the next stage, with Daisy Yates rounding off the triumphs.
Teacher and Eco-committee organiser Julie Woodthorpe announced the results and presented the prizes at Rydal Penrhos’ weekly Celebration Assembly on Friday, June 30.
Prep School head Roger McDuff, said: “As has been the case for the entirety of the academic year, our multi-talented pupils has given their very best and produced some fantastic work as a result.
“Our Eco-Committee have been at the forefront of everything good here at Rydal Penrhos, which is in no small part down to the passion, dedication and enthusiasm of Miss Woodthorpe, and we are eternally grateful for all her efforts.”
