Journalism work experience praised
Elinor Davies spent the week with Communications Assistant Dean Jones over the summer, where she received a crash course in journalism.
During the four-day learning experience she took part in a series of tasks which covered all aspects of the profession, including news reporting, feature writing, opinion pieces and investigative journalism.
Elinor was also given advice on the avenues to pursue in terms of further education, and was given a Teeline Shorthand book from which to learn as the skill is still regarded as the gold standard for any aspiring journalist.
Mr Jones also enlisted the help of friend and TV chef Bryn Williams, who agreed to do an interview on all aspects of food and his restaurants, while Elinor also had the opportunity to review a new healthy eating café in Colwyn Bay, The Fresh Hut.
The budding food journalist was also given helpful hints on how to improve her blog and how best to get the most out of social media.
Mr Jones, said: “I was thoroughly impressed by Elinor’s writing style and her willingness to learn throughout her work experience.
“She was really engaged during the four days and was not afraid to ask questions, which was also very pleasing.
“Giving her a broader perspective of journalism seemed to be very beneficial and something that she enjoyed, which was much to her surprise.
“Elinor can be hugely proud of her efforts and I look forward to seeing how her career develops in the future.”
