Helpful tips for Lower Sixth
A group of pupils were given a host of information to aid their transition to Sixth Form study at a special event.
The annual Study Skills Workshop for the year group took place at the Ferguson Centre on Monday, September 18, which was run by Sixth Form Head Mr Lavery.
During the event each pupil was encouraged to reflect on what motivates them, and how much does their own motivation contribute to their success in-and-out of the classroom.
They were also given tips on what makes effective Sixth Form study by looking at all the different factors that make every academic success that is obtained, such as organisational skills and time management.
Mr Lavery then challenged the group to identify specific ideas for studying that enable them to bridge the gap between Year 11 and 12, and looking at different techniques of learning to help them respond to the higher demands that come with A-level and International Baccalaureate modules.
“This is an annual event I run every year that will hopefully help them pick up effective study skills from the beginning of the year,” said Mr Lavery.
“All Lower Sixth pupils were thoroughly engaged in the workshop, and hopefully the information they acquired will stand them in good stead as they look to continue the outstanding tradition of excellent A-level and International Baccalaureate results in recent years.”
