6th Form Poe-tree highlights event
A special visitor wandered the halls as part of our contribution to National Poetry Day.
Throughout the afternoon Daniel Pearce dressed up as the Poe-tree to bring the joy of poems to various departments within the school, which coincided with the nationwide awareness initiative held annually.
He was joined by fellow Sixth Form pupils Ben Gibson, Head Girl Olivia Williams, Saxon Cowley and English and Drama teacher Mrs Earle to mark National Poetry Day throughout the country.
Staff were also asked to put on their creative thinking caps for a Haiku competition, which also brought with it some fantastic contributions.
A Haiku has three lines which consist of five, seven and five syllables, with Freedom the chosen theme of each submission.
Our Prep School also got into the spirit of the occasion with Reverend Sissons reading a series of poems to the Early Years group, while the Drama Club took part in an inter-house poetry competition.
National Poetry Day is an initiative of the Forward Arts Foundation, a charity that celebrates excellence in poetry and widens its audience.
It was founded in 1994 by William Sieghart and has engaged millions of people across the country reading, writing and listening to poetry.
From 1999, National Poetry Day has been loosely themed: the theme meant to kick-start inspiration rather than be prescriptive.
