A thank you message from our graduating scholars.
Elizaveta Peppi, School Guardian (Clairmont, 2018) Russian, Yale
Arriving at Aiglon as an awestruck second-former six years ago, I would never have imagined seeing myself where I am now - completing my education in the place where I thought I would only remain for a year, with a passion for politics and economics and a flight ticket to New Haven. Whether in front of a campfire, on the summit of the Dents du Midi or in my economics class, I have always considered myself fortunate to be here. Aiglon has allowed me to travel, surround myself with incredible people and gave me a future; thanks to the College and Careers department, I will soon be heading to Yale University. Thank you for giving me this opportunity - the opportunity to experience expeditions, skiing, and the view of Swiss sunsets out of my window.
James Juma, School Guardian
(St. Louis, 2018) Kenyan, Stanford
As I look back at where I have come from, my village Uhanya, my roots, I am completely humbled. Indeed we’ve wondered whether anything good could come out of this village in the middle of nowhere. But now I have a different story to tell. I am like a tortoise on top of a tree. We all know that a tortoise cannot climb a tree, therefore if you see it there, then someone must have placed it there. That is what an Aiglon scholarship has done to me. And now as I leave to my next destination: Stanford University, I would like to say a sincere Thank you for the role you’ve played in my journey and may God bless you as you continue to touch other people’s lives too!
Henri Balla (Belvedere, 2018) Albanian, Rollins College
I will look back at my two years in Switzerland as a time that changed me profoundly. The challenges, the opportunities, the friendships, the funny moments, the memories: Aiglon has shaped my life in ways that will have ever-lasting implications. Whether in terms of academics or moral compass, I have grown in ways I could have never imagined before coming here and for that I will be eternally grateful.
Diana Chege (Clairmont, 2018) Kenyan, Grinnell College
If someone would have told me two years ago that I would be graduating from one of the best schools in the world, I would not believe it. I have had an opportunity to train, perform and even compose my own songs, go up a Swiss mountain peak and forge beautiful friendships with people from different parts of the world. I appreciate every part of it. I must say, It has been beautiful and different, challenging and fulfilling and such a wholesome experience that I would relive. I am very humbled by you, who have deemed me worthy to invest your time and resources in me. You have gifted me with wonderful experiences and opened doors for greater things. For all these, I am forever grateful.
Mart Eek (St Louis, 2018) Estonian, University of Amsterdam
Aiglon’s scholarship programme has allowed me to develop from a quiet boy to a confident man, experience mountain peaks, low-lying rivers, fast-paced skiing and slow-paced ice climbing. It has been a true delight to live above the clouds with people from over 50 countries and cultures. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful for the opportunity to study in such a wonderful community as I tread a path towards a new future at the University of Amsterdam, studying Economics and Business Economics.
Fatima Afroze (Exeter, 2018) Pakistani, McGill University
Thank you for your generosity, which has allowed me to enjoy experiences I could have never imagined. When cross-country skiing, ice-climbing, becoming a School Prefect, debating in international platforms like THIMUN and going on a study exchange program to Denmark just seemed like a dream to me, you made it a reality. It has had a profound impact on my life: from transforming me so I may be the best version of myself to allowing me to step forward on a new educational path that awaits me. I will forever remain grateful for your thoughtful gift. One day I hope to make a difference in people's lives, just as you have made in mine.
Seiha San (Delaware, 2018) Cambodian, Middlebury College
When I walk out of Delaware house each morning, I often stop and look at Dents du Midi as a daily reminder of how fortunate I am. It’s a daily reminder of the endless opportunities offered here at Aiglon through its rigorous academic program, extracurricular activities and expeditions program. Aiglon provides a platform for self-discovery that continues to widen my horizon as I seek inspiration from the people I meet here. This would not have been possible without the scholarship program. This small paragraph is simply not enough to fully mirror the positive impacts of your donation, but rest assured that it has shaped my path towards becoming a well-equipped global citizen and I’m forever grateful. I will be attending Middlebury College in Vermont, USA!
Fildzah Zulkifli (Exeter, 2018) Malaysian, Brandeis
My past 2 years in Aiglon have been nothing short of wonderful, challenging and inspiring. I owe my biggest gratitude to those who have made this journey possible for me, as your generosity has allowed me to not only receive quality education, but also to explore various pursuits outside of the classroom and meet people from different backgrounds. Aiglon’s scholarship programme has inspired to give back to my community and one day I hope to be able to help students realise their dreams as you have helped made me realise mine. I am deeply humbled by this experience, thank you!
Leelaram Elangovan (Belvedere, 2018) Indian, University of British Columbia
The last two years have quite simply been extraordinary! Aiglon has allowed me to excel in my academic interests and unravelled my love for the outdoors through expeditions and cultural programs; and today, I am very happy to say that I am a much better version of myself. But most of all, I am grateful for the love and support I received after the passing of my dad. Aiglon is home and Aiglonians are family. So thank you!
Synaida Maiche (Le Cerf, 2018) Kenyan, Claremont McKenna College
Aiglon has been more than just a school: It has been a home. In Aiglon I came to learn to live not just exist. Challenging myself to climb a mountain, to ski, take up a leadership position in house. Aiglon is the place where I learnt that questioning was ok and that knowledge comes with enquiry. It is such a place where I became open minded and liberal in my thinking; accepting the diversity that creates a community. My passion for Biology and Chemistry soared even higher due to the classroom experiences and selfless teachers in the school. I certainly feel ready to pursue my dream of becoming a neurologist, and as I move to the next level of my life, I would like to say thank you to all those who made this possible for me and I shall forever remain indebted to you.
Assembly & Arts Building
2018 Progress Report
Building the Team
This year has seen us add vital members to our Assembly & Arts Building team. We are now working with The Space Factory to design optimal spaces for our theatre, Drama Studio (Black Box theatre), and Music Recital Room. The Space Factory is a multidisciplinary design practice that provides consulting services to architects, design teams, owners and users for the development of architectural projects for the arts. They have worked on high profile projects worldwide including the Cité de la Musique (Geneva, Switzerland), the Royal Symphony Building (Bangkok, Thailand), the Lyric Theater Complex (Hong Kong, China) and the Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg, Germany).
On the technical side we have appointed Fire Safety Consultants INEXIS, Engineering partners IFEC Engineering to advise on energy efficiency, building materials and acoustics, and Civil Engineers Schnetzer Puskas to ensure structural designs meet Swiss regulations. These teams are now working with the school steering committee and our architects Durisch + Nolli to finalise designs to submit for planning approval.
All this would not have been possible without your support.
It is a joy to work in a not-for-profit environment where you know all the resources are being reinvested in the school. Donations and fundraising are absolutely essential – to ensure our diverse student body and our building projects. The generosity of our community has achieved great things.”
Patricia Bremner Gadotti – Bursar
Your support is vital to our success. Thank you for partnering with us to make a difference.
The new Assembly & Arts Building will sit at the heart of our campus and provide much needed additional space for morning meditation, school events, and the development of our Drama and Music programmes.
If you would like more detail about the new Assembly & Arts Building, please see our full update here.
This year Aiglon welcomed 17 fully funded scholars. We aspire to develop this programme to one day offer support for 10% of our student body. Your gift impacts their lives beyond the time they spend at Aiglon. We look forward to seeing the change they bring to the world!
