Refurbished site officially opened
The Rydal Penrhos community turned out in force to officially open its newly refurbished Sixth Form Ferguson Centre.
A large number of staff, current and former pupils, in addition to Governors’ and parents attended a special ceremony at the site on Saturday, September 15 as part of the school’s Founders’ Weekend celebrations.
This was the culmination of a pupil-led initiative to renovate the site, which exceeded expectations and raised more than £90,000 after initially setting a target of £50,000.
Mr Smith kicked-off proceedings with a short address about how the fundraising campaign “embodied everything we try to install with our 5Ls philosophy”, and thanked everybody that donated to the cause.
He then read a message from former pupil and leading film producer Duncan Kenworthy OBE, who donated a significant amount to the project but was unable to attend the event due to a film Premiere in New York.
Recently departed pupil Anna Richardson, who was the driving force behind the idea alongside Morgan Roberts, cut the ceremonial ribbon to formally open the Ferguson Centre, which will be the hub for both the Sixth Form and the school community in the coming years.
Guests also enjoyed a fantastic lunch from catering providers Holroyd Howe at the facility’s new Café’ J’s, which has been named in recognition of another anonymous donor to the cause.
