Autumn Term Extra-Curricular options
Welcome to the extra-curricular programme at Rydal Penrhos School. Extra-curricular activities form an important aspect of life for all year groups at Rydal Penrhos. The range of options for pupils to choose supplements the classroom curriculum through further enrichment, stimulation and rewarding activities. The aim is to encourage pupils to look beyond the standard curriculum, to explore new subjects and to learn new skills.
As such, each pupil has the chance to extend how their lives are enriched at Rydal Penrhos. The development of this programme is based on the strong conviction that individuals thrive in an environment in which all of their interests and abilities are recognised and nurtured. The restrictions of living with the Covid-19 pandemic have undoubtedly placed stress and anxiety on all of us. We are pleased therefore to offer extra-curricular options that will give our pupils an outlet to extend their skills and engage their interests.
The safety and care of your children is of paramount importance and as such we have had to take measures imposed by the Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions to adapt, and is some cases limit, what we would offer in our usual range of mixed year group activities and mixed year group team sports.
There are however opportunities to try something new, to contribute skills to a range of clubs, to play music, to debate, to keep physically active and most importantly to have fun outside the classroom curriculum.
If and when restrictions are lifted and new guidelines permit, we will be able to amend what we can offer in the programme either later in the term or the academic year. Some of the activities will also be rotated to allow different year groups the option to participate as the academic year progresses.
Pupils should look through this document to help confirm their choices or to amend what they have previously chosen. The timetable page allows pupils to see what options are available to them on a specific day while the summary descriptions give brief information on what they can expect to be doing.
Tutors will be actively asking their tutees about their choices and giving information about locations. It is important that every pupil makes the effort to select at least two options from the range of activities.
The revised extra-curricular programme will commence on Monday 21st September.
Best wishes,
Alun Brown.
