Rydal Penrhos School
With regard to the proposed autumn examination series, there is very little concrete information available at the moment; the Awarding Bodies are currently deploying all of their resources in sorting out the revised arrangements for the summer series so as to ensure that the results are as reliable as the circumstances permit, so it may be some time before any details are published.
However, Qualifications Wales has made it clear from the outset that the WJEC will not be required to run an autumn series, and this means that the following GCSE subjects that we offer at Rydal Penrhos will not be available at that time:
GCSE Subjects
Please note that none of the subjects currently being sat by Year 13 are provided by the WJEC.
Ofqual, the government regulator of all examinations offered by Awarding Bodies based in England, has given these organisations the opportunity to run an examination series in autumn, but has not made this mandatory, on the basis that demand might be minimal in some subjects with a very small entry (none of which figure in the School’s mainstream programme).
Hence we can reasonably anticipate that, apart from the five subjects listed above, all of the GCSE and A Level subjects taught at Rydal Penrhos will be examined in the autumn.
No possible dates for an autumn series have been suggested as yet, but the scheduling of these examinations will be challenging, in that there will be pressure for the earliest possible release of results to support those candidates who require this information so as to be able to move on to the next stage of their education in a timely fashion.
With the results of the summer series being published on 13th August (A Level) and 20th August (GCSE), it is likely that there will not be a great deal of time for candidates to revise before the autumn series starts.
Please be assured that we will be making the full range of autumn examinations open to our summer series candidates at Rydal Penrhos, should they feel that a resit would be beneficial. We will of course welcome back those pupils who would ordinarily have left the School at that point, and will be pleased to offer them full examination facilities.
Subsequent to the release of the summer series results in August, we will give all candidates the opportunity to register for the autumn series based upon the information which will have been made public by the Awarding Bodies by that time.
